Patience football fans

By Rey Sifuentes Jr. - So is the football season not going the way you’d like? Join the club. Right now all four area teams - H.M. King, Bishop, Texas A&M University-Kingsville & Riviera-Kaufer - are a combined 4-12 going into their respective fifth games this season. This should come as no surprise.
For starters, three out of the four head coaches leading the aforementioned teams are currently in their inaugural season.
Anyone of them can attest to the major differences between being an assistant versus being the head honcho. Becoming a head coach means you are snatched out of the assistant-somewhat-safe-zone and thrown right into the fire.
Every move, every win and especially every loss is dissected and analyzed by those few in the know and too many who do not know. This is something that normally comes with being a head coach, especially in such a close knit and loving community as ours.
In my opinion, NONE OF THESE TEAMS ARE BAD; THEY ARE JUST LACKING.
And the number one thing each team has lacked when they have lost is Execution. A team that repeatedly fails to execute will not win no matter how much knowledge the coaching staff has; and I firmly believe each and every coach in our area to be a football scholar.
But the brains still need the muscles to carry out the directives.
Another factor the public school teams are dealing with are lack of numbers. I am amazed at how the Brahmas have kept up with teams twice their size thus far. Then again, they also have lots of guys running ragged while playing both sides of the football week in and week out. Numbers, however, will continue to be an issue with all of the enrollment juggling going on.
Therefore, it is hard to always get after a kid for his mistakes when he - for example - plays quarterback, cornerback and punts the ball; meaning he never gets off the field. While we as fans may cringe at their mistakes and blown opportunities, we must also take into account the circumstances facing our coaches and players.
I know football fans, I’d also love for all of our teams to be 4-0 right now, but lets be patient and stick by them even when things are not going well.
Riviera hosts Bishop in their district opener this Friday. H.M. King hosts Corpus Christi Miller this Friday.
