Gary Edward Carroll

- Gary Edward Carroll, 75, died Sept. 19, 2007, after a long fight with cancer.
He was born Sept. 12, 1932.
Gary served in the United States Navy in the 1950s, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander and later served in the Naval Reserves.
He graduated from Texas A&I University with a B.S.degree in agriculture, and went on to teach the jockeys at the King Ranch School in Kingsville.
He taught science in his hometown of Premont.
Later, after completing his M.S.degree in education and obtaining counseling certification, he became a school counselor, working in Alice for a few years and then as a high school counselor in Falfurrias for many years.
He valued learning and continued his education beyond the university, attending many conferences, classes and institutes; his favorites were the Natural Science Institutes held at various sites throughout the state.
In addition, Gary was a farmer and rancher, and a real estate entrepreneur.
He served on the board of directors of the John E. Conner Museum at Texas A&M University in Kingsville.
Survivors include his wife, Marinelle Turner Carroll; a son, Dr. J. Thomas (Kim) Carroll of League City; two daughters, Gail Lee Scott of Houston and Ann Elizabeth (Jim) Anderson of Reno, Nev.; seven grandchildren; one brother, Walter (Mavis) Carroll of Leon Springs; and one sister, Evelyn (Don) Guynn of Premont.
Public viewing was held Sept. 21 at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsville.
Burial followed at Premont Cemetery.
