He was born on Oct. 4, 1925, to Ernest A. Wernecke and Selma Richter Wernecke in The Grove. Wernecke was a prominent cattleman in the South Texas area. He was named recipient of the Outstanding Conservation Ranch Award. He was a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Caroline A. Wernecke of Kingsville; two daughters, Carolyn DeCamp and Marilyn (Joe) Ellis, both of Corpus Christi; two sons, Edward (Michele) Wernecke of Agua Dulce and Walter (Sandra) Wernecke of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Public visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Aug. 8 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary with the family receiving friends that evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 9 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 521 East Doddridge St. in Kingsville, with the Rev. Allan Eckert officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Kingsville. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. |
