He was born Feb. 15, 1921, to Gonzalo and Maria Garza in Rio Grande City. He retired after 21 years of service with the maintenance department at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Judith Mata Garza of Kingsville; one son, Jesus Garza of Houston; three daughters, Janie Lerma of Houston, Melba Garza, Anna Espinosa, both of Kingsville; one brother, Ismael Pena of Florida; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 4 at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home. A rosary was held at 7 p.m. July 4 at Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m. July 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kingsville with the Rev. Joe Torres officiating. Burial followed at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetary. |
