Riviera-Kaufer’s varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams beat Santa Rosa this past Tuesday. The varsity Seahawk team swept Santa Rosa (25-13, 25-13 & 25-11) while the junior varsity team won 25-19, lost 20-25 and then concluded the contest with a 25-16 win. Tracy Yaklin had seven kills and a block during the varsity game. Lisa Gomez tallied six assists and a dig. Whitley Van Fleet chipped in a kill, an ace and an assist. Ana Ruiz scored four digs. Cassie Gomez contributed two assists. Tina Gomez helped out with four assists and an ace. Dixie Wheeler had a kill and a dig. Sharla Irby contributed a dig and an ace. Erionne Wallace, Leighann Campos and Trinda Medellin each had a dig. Lauren Romero is also on the team. The Lady Seahawks district record is 4-1. Becky Ivey is their coach. H.M. King’s varsity cross country runners attended a meet at the University of Texas at San Antonio this past weekend. In a race with a total of 255 female runners Ashley Nunez came in thirty-fifth place with a time of 13:55. Rebecca Valadez (67, 14:25), Megan Ryan (95, 14:41), Virginia De Leon (158, 15:35) and Barbara Ochoa (253, 19:45) also competed in the varsity race. Brett Arredondo finished in fifty-ninth place, out of 267 runners, with a time of 17:47 in the boys division. Andrew Rivas (65, 17:49), Oscar Cantu (68, 17:56), Justin Quintanilla (123, 18:46), Bryan Garcia (202, 20:14) and Matthew Garza (221, 20:48) also raced. H.M. King will compete against Corpus Christi Carroll at West Guth Park this coming Saturday. H.M. King’s volleyball teams host Calallen this Tuesday (5 p.m., 6 p.m. & 7 p.m.) before hosting Flour Bluff this Saturday (10 a.m., 11 a.m. & noon). H.M. King’s varsity, junior varsity and freshman football teams have a bye this week. Memorial Middle School’s eighth grade A&B football teams host Tuloso-Midway this Tuesday at 5:30 and 7 p.m. H.M. King’s varsity tennis team travels to Alice this Tuesday (4:30 p.m.) before hosting Rockport-Fulton this Saturday (9 a.m.). Memorial Middle School’s seventh grade A&B teams travel to play Tuloso-Midway this Tuesday at 5:30 and 7 p.m. All four of Memorial Middle School’s volleyball teams host Calallen this Monday. Game times are 5 p.m. for the seventh grade A and eighth grade B teams; 6 p.m. for the eighth grade A and seventh grade B teams. The Badgers homecoming parade and community wide pep rally will be this Wednesday (October 3). Line up for the parade (which kicks off at 6 p.m.) will be at 5:30 p.m. at the city park. The Burning of the B will be at 7 p.m. Bishop’s junior high and junior varsity football teams travel to play Banquete this Thursday. Game times are 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The homecoming crowning takes place this Friday at 7 p.m. before the game against Banquete kicks off at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Badger freshman team beat Hebbronville in two straight games this past Tuesday (25-14 & 25-22) moving their record up to 4-1 in district. Bishop’s junior varsity volleyball team lost their first game against Hebbronville (28-30), then came back in the second and third contests (25-18 & 25-23) to win the match keeping their unblemished district record at 5-0. Bishop’s varsity team went the distance with Hebbronville losing a tough five game match. Collectively, the Varsity Lady Badgers amassed 27 kills, 21 aces, 14 assists, 19 digs and six blocks. Non-varsity football H.M. King’s freshman football team lost to Corpus Christi Miller 22-20 this past Thursday. The junior varsity team won 6-0. Deandre Haynes scored on 6-yard run for the j.v. Brahmas. De La Paz Middle School’s seventh grade football team won 28-0 against Bishop this past week. The Seahawk eighth grade team lost a close contest against Bishop 12-6. |
