Seahawks 2-2 after win against Benavides

By Rey Sifuentes Jr. -
Riviera-Kaufer’s varsity football team won their second game of the season after beating Benavides 30-6 at home this past Friday. The victory is one more than the Seahawks had from the previous two years combined.
Robert Rodriguez scored the first Seahawk touchdown with a 20-yard run. Jacob Hubert completed a pass to Brad Jameson for the two-point conversion.
Rodriguez scored another touchdown by catching a 23-yard pass from Andrew Munoz. Hubert completed another pass to Munoz for the two-point conversion. Matt Martinez hauled in a 16-yard pass from Hubert for Kaufer’s third touchdown. Hubert scored the Seahawk’s final touchdown on a one-yard run before completing a pass to Matt Longoria for the two-point conversion.
Riviera (2-2) hosts Bishop (0-4) in their district opener this Friday. Bishop is coming off of a 41-6 loss to Taft. The Badgers are led by Coach Barry Wolf.
“To me, it (district) is a new start for the kids as we prepare every day for this point in the season,” Kaufer Head Coach Arturo De La Rosa said. “As hard as we are working right now, keeping focused on what we are doing, we are going to play some good football.”
Installing and refining the Wish Bone offense this season, Kaufer has been soundly defeated only once thus far.
“We have had only one let down which was a tough Bruni team but we have played well this season,” De La Rosa said. “All season long I have been talking about things like the offensive line blocking and our backs hitting the holes.”
The Seahawks have maintained their A-B-C recipe for running the ball and now hope to add a few more ingredients.
“We want to keep our plan simple while also moving things around a little bit and basically that is what we have done as we arrive at district,” De La Rosa said. “We are also starting to spread our offense out a little bit where our opponents will see different things and hopefully that will continue to work for us so then all we have to do is polish it up and do it better.”
De La Rosa also wanted to express his gratitude to assistant coaches Robert Silguero, Ruben Soliz, Joey Rendon, Jose Valerio, Lee Roy Gonzalez and Bryan Ford.
