Dottie Adams Memorial Golf tourney results announced

- The Dottie Adams Memorial Golf Tournament, benefiting the Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council, was held at L.E. Ramey Golf Course on Sept. 29, and for the third year in a row, the tournament was plagued by rain.
“Well, we had rain again, and we delayed the shotgun start for a few minutes, but the golfers decided to go ahead and face the rain. A few of the teams came in the Club House in between holes, but the women teams proved to be die-hard golfers. They were the last to complete the course and didn’t seem to let the rain dampen their spirits,” Carla Meyer, Executive Director said.
Despite the rainy weather, the Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council’s benefit tournament was a success, even though no one won any of the hole-in-one prizes provided by Phil Neessen of Neessen Chevrolet-GMC-Buick. Every golfer left with something. Mo Garza with IPS not only ran away with the Men’s tournament, but he also swept top prize in Fantasy Golf, and won Closest to the Pin.
Garza teamed up with Nacho Vela and each won a coffee table book depicting the PGA’s most famous golf courses, a golf bag-shaped ice chest donated by Hayley and Hunter Meyer, a free oil change from C&A Goodyear, and two sleeves of balls from Schlumberger, and close behind was the second place team of Tivo Perez and Santos Acevedo, each winning a golf book, a gift certificate to Big House Burgers, and a sleeve of balls. Rounding out the Men’s tournament was Frank Salazar and Trey Rosebrock, winning a golf book, a sleeve of balls and Whataburger coupons.
The top women’s team consisted of Norma Collins and Anna Grossman, winning a pink igloo ice chest donated by Schlumberger, gift certificate to King’s Inn compliments of King’s Inn, a coffee table book and two sleeves of balls.
Second place went to Dottie Ainsworth and Barbara Goode, winning a book, dinner at the Cherry Tree Tea Room compliments of the Cherry Tree Tea Room and lunch at Route 77 Pizzeria compliments of Route 77, and a sleeve of balls.
In addition, Gary Warnock won $50 for the Longest Drive, Moe Garza and Anna Grossman won $100 each for Closest to the Pin. Mo Garza won Fantasy Golf, winning a putter, and Julie Adams placed second also winning a putter.
The golf course provided a barbecue meal and Ellis Meyer presented KCALC with the funds he had raised so far during his 100 One-hundred Dollar Bill Campaign.
“ I am half way to my goal of $10,000, and I hope to meet my goal by the end of the year,” Ellis said.
Carla Meyer donated $100 in honor of Barbara Harvey, Kingsville resident and avid golfer, who passed away earlier this year. To learn more about the Kleberg County Adult Literacy Council call 595-1010.
Meyer also wants to thank all of the individuals and businesses that helped make the golf tournament a huge success.
