Volleyball Notes

The Lady Seahawk varsity volleyball team is now 5-1 in district after beating Bishop four games to one this past weekend. Kaufer won 25-19, 25-8, lost 25-27 and concluded things 25-22.
Playing for the Lady Seahawks, Lisa Gomez collected eleven assists, two kills and a block. Whitley Van Fleet scored five kills, four digs and a block. Tracy Yaklin amassed five kills, five digs and two blocks. Ana Ruiz tallied three kills and six digs. Tina Gomez collected eight assists. Lauren Romero chipped in two blocks. Dixie Wheeler had five digs. Erionne Wallace, Sharla Irby, Leighann Campos, Trinda Medellin and Cassie Gomez also played.
On Bishop’s side, Emilee Bade put together eleven kills, two aces and five digs. Kasey Cavazos scored seven kills, two aces, two assists and eight digs. Jessica Garza tallied ten assists, four digs and an ace. Genny Lopez chipped in seven assists and three digs. Brianne Vincent notched two blocks and two digs. Kimberly Whitley collected two kills and two blocks.
Luehrs (Bishop)
Junior High
Luehrs’ seventh grade B team beat Hebbronville in two straight games 20-3 and 20-8 to win their match this past Monday.
Lauren Morales opened things up with 18 consecutive serves to win the first game. Erin Fuhrken, Peggy Garcia and Larisa Fernandez served the ball well during the second game. Felicia Perez was captain for the night.
Morales and Elora Hubbs received awards for hustle.
The Lady Badger seventh grade A team also beat Hebbronville (25-8 and 25-12) in two consecutive games.
Erica Cavazos, Victoria Ramirez and Ann Ramirez led their team to victory with good serves in the first game. Lindsey Roy served 14 points and Bianca Reyna totaled four during the second game. Cyssi Garcia had an outstanding kill with a set from Haleigh Rodriguez. Hustle awards went to Rina Rivera and Jennifer Simon.
Another two game sweep was accomplished by Luehrs’ eighth grade B team (20-8 & 20-15). Sabrina Ortiz served four points and had a pair of aces. Caitlin Hollingshead served 10 points and had an ace. Larissa Guerra served five points and Katie Mechell collected seven.
The Lady Badger eighth grade A team fought a little tougher contest but eventually beat their Hebbronville counterparts in game one 25-14, lost 21-25 and then sealed the deal 25-18. Kassie Herrera served up 12 points and three aces. Mari Barrera served 13 points, collected five aces and scored the kill which ended the deciding contest. Alyssa Zuniga served five points and chipped in an ace. Briana Reyna contributed a kill. The hustle award went to all the girls for their hard work.
H.M. King
The Lady Brahmas varsity volleyball team concluded the first round of their district record alone in third place with a 2-2 record. They defeated Alice this past Saturday before dropping a game to Calallen this past Tuesday.
H.M. King swept Alice 25-16, 25-16 and 25-13. Chelsea Hower scored 25 kills and had a block. Lena Hemphill collected six kills and a block. Amanda Arriaga notched three kills and 11 digs. Corina Noel totaled 10 digs and two aces. Reeva Soliz contributed three kills and 36 assists. Morgan Gant chipped in three kills.
Coach Yadira Rangel said her team made Calallen earn most of their points despite losing 10-25, 16-25 & 10-25. Hower amassed six kills and a block. Arriaga scored two kills and four digs. Noel totaled nine digs and an ace. Soliz collected nine assists. Desiree Ayarzagoitia turned in thirteen digs and an ace. Hemphill chipped in a block.
