Luehrs’ - Bishop CISD - volleyball teams (8B, 8A, 7B & 7A) had a very good outing at their district tournament in Hebbronville this past Saturday. The Lady Badger eighth grade B team won their bracket by steam rolling through Ricardo, Premont and Hebbronville on their way to the tournament crown. Luehrs’ seventh grade B team ended up in second place in their division. The recipient of a bye in the first round, the Lady Badgers beat De La Paz Middle School in two straight games during the second round before losing to Premont in the finals. The Lady Badger seventh grade A team also finished their tournament division in second place. They beat De La Paz in three games during the first round before downing Premont in the second round in two consecutive games. Ricardo Middle School defeated Luehr’s in the final round. Great serving, accurate passing to setters, nice sets and several spikes (five solid kills or spikes which ended in points) were the big ingredient in Luehr’s success. Luehr’s eighth grade A team came out in fourth place. They competed against Freer, Riviera and Santa Rosa. This past Monday saw numerous Luehrs teams beat Premont Middle School. The Lady Badger eighth grade C team beat Premont’s seventh grade C team. Peggy Garcia, Anessa Gonzalez and the rest of the squad were praised for their hustle. Luehrs seventh grade B team tied their game (20-13 & 23-21) against the Lady Cowgirls. Hustle Awards went to Barbara Escobar and Crystal Zamora. Luehrs seventh grade A team bested Premont in three games; winning 25-19, losing 23-25 and finishing with a 25-9 win. Erica Cavazos led with great serves and passes. Rina Riviera, Cyssi Garcia, and Lindsey Roy also served aces. Kassie Gunter and Tessa Miller scored important kills. Bianca Reyna and Haliegh Rodriguez received honors for their hustle. The Lady Badger eighth grade B team rolled over Premont in two consecutive games; both 20-12. Larissa Guerra scored ten points with five aces. Caitlin Hollinghead notched nine points with two aces. Katie Mechell also had an ace. Taylor Medrano had a critical save that ended in a side out. Premont beat the Lady Badger eighth grade A team 26-24 in the first of their three game match. Luehrs raced back and won the second game 25-21 and took the third and concluding game 25-13. Alyssa Zuniga had a total of thirteen points with five aces. Coralie Saenz notched several assists and a kill. Leslyn Baker chipped in three kills and an ace. Kassie Herrera served up two aces and a kill. Celina Pecos had an ace and a kill. Mari Barrera served an ace. Brianna Reyna contributed two kills. Alex Martinez, Morgan Vassuar, April Rodriguez, Dacia Cavazos and Rubie Contreras had several assists.
Winners must come to the office of the Kingsville Record at 105 S. 5th St. to claim their prizes. Winners are for games played Oct. 5 through Oct. 8. The first place winner of two tickets to the next Javelina home game and four free garage sale reader ads (a $20 value) is Alfredo Mendietta of Kingsville. The second place winner of a free oil change from C&A Service & Tires is Luis P. Alegria of Kingsville. The third place winner of $5 of McDonald’s bucks is Rolando Chapa of Kingsville. |
