Kingsville, Kleberg County set public hearings Monday

- Both the City of Kingsville and Kleberg County will hold the second of two public hearings on their proposed tax rates, but residents will have to be quick if they hope to attend both, and the county will have to be equally quick in moving its agenda along.
The Kleberg County Commissioners Court will meet in special session at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the courthouse annex, 1500 E. King.
The public hearing is the last item of an eight-item agenda.
The county is proposing a tax rate of 64.64 cents per $100 valuation compared to 57.1 cents this year. The new tax rate takes effect Oct. 1.
The City of Kingsville will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall to conduct a public hearing on its proposed budget and a public hearing on its proposed tax rate.
The public hearings are at the beginning of a 10-item agenda.
For the general maintenance and operations budget, the city anticipates expenditures of $13,007,506 with revenue of $13,125,356; for the water utility budget, the city anticipates expenditures of $6,653,578 with revenue of $6,725,675; and for the South Texas Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force budget, the city anticipates expenditures of $874,226, with forfeitures and seizures expected to be enough to fund budgeted operations.
The city proposes a total tax rate of 77.813 cents per $100 valuation for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, compared to 68.544 cents for the current year.
