The Kingsville Garden Club has awarded the Garden Spot of the Month to Helen and O.J. Rodriguez of 413 Billye Evans. Their front yard is characterized by oak, mesquite and palm trees towering over areas of formal landscaping. Surrounding the home are wide curving beds of small trees, shrubs, and flowers, bordered by layers of garden bricks. Additionally, two large kidney-shaped beds beautifully illustrate the attractiveness of landscaping, which is separated from the home’s foundation. The Rodriguez’s yard exemplifies outstanding, well balanced design and features a wide array of staples, including sago palms, hibiscus, roses, Indian hawthorn, philodendron, yaupon holly, nandina, wax-leafed ligustrum, red top photinia, bougainvillea, ixora, boxwood, Mexican heather, vinca and giant liriope. The back yard is a quiet, tropical haven with a swimming pool, fountain, and hot tub, surrounded by several varieties of palms and many of the flowers and shrubs used in the front yard.
