Interested students must start the enrollment process now. “The spring class will help meet the strong demand of well-educated licensed vocational nurses in the Coastal Bend,” Betty Sims, nursing director, said. Students who enroll in the mid-year class will graduate in December 2008 and after completion of the required prerequisite courses, may be poised to bridge into the RN program. Students interested in enrolling are advised to start planning immediately. Students are required to have at least two of the three required Hepatitis immunizations for admission. The third must be completed before clinical rotations begin six weeks into the program. The series takes four to six months to complete. Students have until Nov. 3 to successfully complete the Nurse Entrance Test, which determines eligibility to receive an application to the program. Sims recently added additional NET dates to accommodate students interested in enrolling into the vocational nursing program for Spring 2008. Test takers are advised to arrive early for the test. The $25 fee for the test must be paid in advance. The amount is non-refundable. A receipt and a photo ID are required on the day of the test. Those who arrive late will not be admitted after testing begins. Test dates for the Kingsville campus are Sept. 13, 5-8 p.m.; Sept. 18, 9 a.m. to noon; Sept. 22, 8-11 a.m.; Sept. 27, 9 a.m. to noon; Oct. 4, 5-8 p.m.; Oct. 11, 9 a.m. to noon; Oct. 16, 3-6pm Oct 20, 8-11 a.m.; Oct. 25, 5-8 p.m.; Nov. 1, 5-8 p.m. and Nov. 3, 9 a.m. to noon. Registration for each ends four business days prior to the test date. No test will be administered for the February 2008 class after Nov. 3.
